TAOAI

Bittensor is often called the Bitcoin of AI.

Bitcoin pays a global network to secure a currency.
Bittensor pays a global network to produce intelligence.

This guide explains the network, not TAOAI.

Supply cap: 21 million coins, the same as Bitcoin.

AI is the fastest-growing technology of all time

Artificial intelligence is the fastest-growing innovation ever, outpacing the adoption of both the internet and social media.

Centralised companies are racing for AI revenue and control

As with every major new infrastructure, an arms race has begun.

  1. Railroads

    Captured by
    Vanderbilt and the rail trusts
  2. The internet

    Captured by
    Google and Amazon
  3. AI

    Being captured by
    OpenAI and Anthropic

A distributed, open-source alternative has emerged

A truly open AI that unlocks a global pool of stranded compute and talent, outside the walled gardens of the leading AI companies.
Its name is Bittensor.

Centralised

A few companies own the models, the data and the compute. Progress follows their budgets and their priorities.

Distributed

Anyone can contribute models, data or compute. The network measures the work and rewards whatever performs best.

What industry leaders have said about Bittensor

Essentially what Bitcoin is doing is taking excess energy, storing it into a new form, it’s called currency… imagine a much more universal currency called intelligence.

Jensen HuangCEO, NVIDIA

In the way that the internet was the worldwide web of information, Bittensor is creating the worldwide web of intelligence.

Barry SilbertCEO, DCG

128 active subnets: Bittensor’s Cambrian explosion

128 companies, known as subnets, are competing to solve core AI and infrastructure problems on Bittensor.

One network, many specialised subnets

Every subnet runs on Bittensor and is rewarded in TAO. Subnets provide services to each other, and to people and companies outside the network.

Example subnet categories, all running on the Bittensor network: compute, machine learning, AI infrastructure, robotics, data, content generation, prediction, agents and model training.

Workers can contribute from anywhere

Like Bitcoin, anyone can join from anywhere. Workers compete on merit, and the network pays the most useful work in TAO.

  1. A global talent pool

Workers contribute compute, storage and other services from every region.

  2. Scored on merit

The network scores each worker’s submission. Only the most useful is rewarded.

  3. Paid in TAO

Rewards are paid by the network. No hiring, no offices.

Illustrative. The cities show how work reaches a subnet from anywhere; they are not a live map of workers.

User growth

Wallets on Bittensor grew from 20K in 2023 to over 576K today.
